Team UP-Dagisik won first place in the Urban Concept Battery Electric Category in the recently concluded Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Philippines held at the Clark International Speedway.The Shell Eco-marathon competition challenges student teams around the world to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient cars.
Team UP-Dagisik’s improved, energy-efficient, and light car, SIGLO, achieved a mileage of 110 km/kwh, surpassing all recent SEMA records in the said category. SIGLO is supported by Meralco through the Meralco Power Academy, as its advocacy in developing the best engineering talents of the country.
The team name Dagisik, which is the Filipino term for electron, was chosen by the team members to reflect their team, composed of EEE students. The car is named SIGLO to commemorate the UP EEE Institute’s100th year anniversary this year. Team UP-Dagisik will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia in Singapore on March 16 – 19, 2017 with the goal to qualify in the World Driver’s Championship in London on May 28, 2017.
